This is my first diary, but I've been lurking here and other sites for a long time now. I'm fascinated by the passion and emotion coming from both sides of the party throughout this primary race. Through it all, I keep finding myself wondering the same question: what will all of these fervent supporters do once the nomination is decided?
So here's the question in generic terms and I'd like to hear answers from both sides. Assume that your candidate loses the nomination. Will you support the Democrat in November?
If the answer is no, what will it take? If your current favorite endorses the Democrat nominee will you support them then? Will you stay home from the polls, or vote for McCain or a third party?
Another big question is what will you do between whenever this is figured out (be it June or at the convention) through November? Will you join the fight against McCain, continue to argue against the nominee, or will you just stop following national politics? Will you still frequent this site (or other Dem blogs) if they support the nominee that you didn't support? If not, where will you go?
I just have a hard time believing that people like me who spend so much time following the political scene can just leave it behind if things don't turn out as we hoped. Likewise, I have a hard time believing that Obama supporters who have invested so much in beating Clinton or that Clinton supporters who have invested so much in beating Obama will be able to change their tune to supporting their former rival and going after McCain.
Am I wrong? Where does this all end?
